We recently caught up with special Guest Coach Greg Gidman to grill him about his philosophy on attacking and defending.
Skyrocket: "Coach Gidman, when you're training players about defense, what do you stress?" Coach Gidman: "I emphasize personal responsibility as a defender and how to cover for one another defensively. A little bit of the two are stronger than one idea. (Another good Biblical teaching principle.)" (Click "Read more" to continue.)
Skyrocket: "What do you say to attackers?" Coach Gidman: "I stress taking calculated risks, beating an opponent if it puts the defense at a significant disadvantage, and how to penetrate to goal. I also train players to see the importance and technique of shooting properly. Skyrocket: "Speaking of shooting, how do you approach it?" Coach Gidman: "I break it down to power vs placement. I design activities which help develop play within the attacking third and focus on penetration, how to be effective, and where to make runs in the box." Skyrocket: "Sounds great, Coach. We're looking forward to having you in Louisville!" |
