We recently caught up with college soccer coach and Skyrocket Guest Trainer, Greg Gidman, to ask him how he'll integrate the topics of "passing and receiving" into Skyrocket's 2008 curriculum. Click "Read More" below to see his response.
Skyrocket: "What's your approach on teaching passing and receiving, Coach Gidman?" GG: "I will take the players through a series of basic passing forms and techniques and also focus on aspects such as foot position, follow-through, and balance." Skyrocket: "Do you know any secrets to teaching strong passing to players?" GG: "I will introduce them to the importance of the plant foot, the strength generated by energy created with a solid foundation. Many coaches do not understand the importance of this and fail to teach the technique soundly. It is also a good analogy of our foundation needing to be firm as we desire God's strength in us." Skyrocket: "What's your philosophy about being 'both-footed'?" GG: "I believe passing needs to be developed in both feet but I do emphasize the dominant. I say perfection with the dominant and no hesitation with the non-dominant. The European Coaches tend to emphasize the "both feet equally as good" notion while the Hispanic players tend to perfect the inside and outside of the one foot better (we can learn from both). The Brazilians are in a class of their own (haha)." Skyrocket: "Do you favor any certain age when coaching? ...and may we ask, what's your style of coaching?" GG: "I will work with even the youngest at the camp on all aspects of passing and receiving and I will help each player learn to use several surfaces of the body with the ball. I will do this through a variety of possession activities and small-sided games." Keep an eye on SkyrocketSoccer.com to learn more about Coach Gidman's approach to training. |
